Carmanah provided a complete turnkey grid tie system to Electromega, a company that offers integrated solutions for manufacturers of specialized roadway equipment. The grid-tie system is comprised of twenty Evergreen 115 watt solar modules, a 2.5 kW Xantrex grid tie inverter, and module top-of-pole mounts and is installed along Queen Elizabeth Way, near Fort Erie, Ontario, for the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO).

The system is used to power a single person workstation at an Ontario MTO weigh scale station, which, in the past, has always been powered by the utility. The load demand for this particular application is relatively low, therefore the goal of this system is to bring the workstation as close to a ‘net zero’ classification as possible - the building would have a net energy consumption of zero over a typical year.
