In 2007, Carmanah was awarded a contract to design, supply and install a turnkey 25 kW photovoltaic solar power system for the City of Mississauga’s state-of-the-art Hershey Centre sports complex. In selecting Carmanah for this special project, the City recognized Carmanah as the largest and most trusted solar technology integrator in Canada. The Hershey Centre installation is the City of Mississauga’s first renewable energy project and reinforces the City’s commitment to environmental stewardship. The system features a web-based data acquisition system which reports the production of renewable energy from the solar power system in real time. The community can observe the production of renewable energy from this system on two large LCD monitors installed at the Hershey Centre.

The system was commissioned in November 2007 and will generate over 28,000 kWh of electricity per year and deliver about $12,000 in annual revenue to the City. Carbon emissions will be reduced by about 25,000 kilograms per year by this system.
