Ottawa , ON
Commercial Operation:
2011

In October 2010, Carmanah was awarded a contract from Northland Power to supply and install solar PV rooftop systems to four properties in Southern Ontario for a national food distributor and retailer. The new solar systems include: Ottawa (495 kW); Whitby (434 kW); Ajax (226 kW) and Toronto (10 kW). The Whitby and Ottawa installations will be the largest grid-tie solar power systems in Canada to date.

Once operational, the Carmanah solar PV grid-tie system will generate revenue for Northland through the contracted sale of energy from the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) under the Feed-In-Tariff (FIT) program. The new solar system will also support the food distributor and retailer’s longstanding commitment to environmentally responsible business practices and sustainable technologies. In 2009, this food distributor and retailer, one of Canada’s largest, effectively reduced their carbon footprint by focusing on energy management improvement initiatives. One of these initiatives included a commitment to installing rooftop solar power systems on its Ontario stores.
