In 2007, Carmanah received an order from the City of North Bay for a turnkey 10 kW grid-tie solar power system. The solar power demonstration project was installed on the roof of the mezzanine of North Bay City Hall, as part of an initiative to reduce the City’s environmental footprint and to engage the community to reduce its impact on global warming. The project was a joint venture between the City and North Bay Hydro. The installation was commissioned in April 2008 and features a web-based data acquisition system which reports real-time renewable energy production from the site, adding to the community engagement component of the project.

The City of North Bay obtained a RESOP (Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program) contract that enables it to sell the solar power to North Bay Hydro over a 20 year period at a rate of $0.42 per kilowatt hour (kWh).
