Madeira Island Illuminates Buoys with Carmanah 701 Marine Lanterns

Wednesday, January 23, 2008

Navigational buoys located off the southwest coast of Madeira Island are using the power of the sun to direct mariners around a section of artificial reef. Provided by Carmanah's authorized Portuguese distributor Ahlers Lindley, Carmanah 701 solar power marine lanterns were installed as part of a turn-key solution for aids-to-navigation around the reef.

Exposed to a challenging southwest ocean swell, the site required durable and reliable equipment that could withstand severe conditions.

Self-contained and field-proven to withstand extreme conditions, Carmanah's 701 solar LED marine lanterns provided an ideal solution for lighting markers in this difficult location. Where battery-powered lighting alternatives are susceptible to water ingress and corrosion, Carmanah solar marine lanterns are entirely self-contained, with solar panels, batteries and LEDs in one compact unit that is completely waterproof.

Incorporating LED technology that requires no bulb replacements for the life of the product, Carmanah's solar lanterns are designed to operate maintenance free for up to five years. Maintenance and repair cycles are reduced, saving money and increasing safety.

The navigational aids have received positive comments from Department officials who maintain and service and site, and the mariners who use it.
