California Air Quality Monitoring System Equipped with Pollution-Free Solar Power

Wednesday, December 19, 2007

Carmanah's stand-alone solar power technology is providing a pollution-free power source for an air quality monitoring system in California.

The area includes a migratory and nesting bird sanctuary that has been monitored and protected for the last 30 years. In order to ensure the Federal and State air quality standards are met in this sensitive area, an air quality monitoring station was installed at the location, but powering it presented a challenge -- the remote site offered no access to utility power to run the equipment, and any type of onsite generation that contributed air pollution to the area would be unsuitable.

As an environmentally friendly solution, Carmanah's Solar Power System Division designed and installed a custom five kilowatt stand-alone solar power system to provide clean, safe, maintenance-free power for the monitoring station.

Carmanah's stand-alone solar power systems offers quick and easy installation, minimal maintenance, and a convenient and reliable source of power wherever it's needed. In addition to projects such as this, Carmanah's integrated, turnkey solar power systems can support a variety of remote equipment applications:

  • Remote communications
  • Video surveillance
  • Security lighting
  • Perimeter security
  • Water resource security
  • Motion sensors
