Carmanah Awarded Contract to Supply Four Solar Power Systems to State of Nevada

Monday, November 21, 2005

Carmanah is pleased to announce the receipt of a two-year contract from the State of Nevada's Department of Information Technology to design and supply solar power systems for the state's remote mountaintop communications sites.

Carmanah's solar power systems will be installed on Pinn Hill, Maggie Peak, Hickison Peak and Spruce Mountain in Nevada. With networks of mountaintop repeaters accessible only by helicopter and without access to utility power, the installation sites require extremely reliable systems.

Remote mountaintop communication sites are required in Nevada to expand and develop critical communications infrastructures. Typically, these locations are remote, difficult to access in winter, and located on federal property. Solar power or solar/generator hybrid power systems are the most reliable, low impact solution for inaccessible locations, and consequently offset ongoing fuel costs. Solar power systems also require little to no ongoing maintenance, therefore making them an attractive alternative to generators.

Designed and built to endure months of extreme weather conditions while maintaining the critical power needed to keep the site operational, Carmanah's Solar Systems include: Sharp 165 watt modules and an advanced microprocessor based solar charge Controller. Pinn Hill, Maggie Peak, and Hickison Peak all have 12kW solar arrays. Spruce Mountain has a 20kW solar array. Carmanah's solar power systems provide an independent power source that can endure months of hostile weather and snow cover while still providing electricity to critical systems.

Carmanah's Solar Power Group has over 20 years of technical experience, and one of the widest selections of renewable energy products available. Carmanah has extensive experience in designing and supplying solar electric systems for telecommunications applications. Installations include mountaintop repeater sites, microwave relay stations, and portable radio power systems.
