Carmanah's Solar LED Lighting Division has supplied the Boulder City Municipal Airport with an initial order of four solar-powered Elevated Runway Guard Lights (ERGL). The lights will be installed at taxiway and runway intersections to alert air and vehicle traffic when they are approaching an active runway.
Elevated Runway Guard lights are recognized as an effective visual aid in preventing runway incursions that occur when air or vehicle traffic enters an active runway, creating a safety hazard. Reducing runway incursions remains one of the top priorities for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the Administration has identified elevated runway guard lights as the single most effective method of reducing incursions.
Carmanah's solar-powered Elevated Runway Guard Light was selected for its versatility in locations without access to the electrical grid. The area where the lights were installed did not have the necessary electrical infrastructure and supplying the necessary power was cost-prohibitive. Carmanah's solar Elevated Runway Guard Lights installed easily without trenching, cabling, or excessive disruption to the flow of air traffic.
Operating free from the electrical grid, and requiring no maintenance for up to five years, Carmanah's Elevated Runway Guard Lights also significantly reduce airport operation and maintenance costs.
Located 1 mile southwest of Boulder City, Nevada, at an elevation of 2201 feet (671 meters), Boulder City Municipal Airport averages 138 aircraft operations per day.
