Carmanah to Supply Solar Grid-Tie Power System for Parks Canada Gulf Island National Park Reserve

Wednesday, August 24, 2005

Carmanah's Solar Power Systems Group has been contracted by Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) to design and supply a grid-tie solar power system for the Parks Canada's Gulf Island National Park Reserve's new headquarters, located in Sidney , British Columbia.

Carmanah's grid-tie solar power systems generate electricity to supplement grid power and reduce a building's dependency on conventional utilities. Using 42 of Carmanah's SQ175 solar modules and three Fronius 2500 grid tie inverters, Carmanah's grid-tie system is designed to provide PWGSC with approximately 10 percent of the new building's power load.

The grid-tie system is scheduled for installation in October, 2005. Upon completion, the building will receive LEED Certification, which distinguishes building projects that have demonstrated a commitment to sustainability by meeting higher performance standards in environmental responsibility and energy efficiency.

Carmanah's solar power systems are designed and built to endure years of extreme weather conditions while maintaining the critical power needed to supplement site operations. They require little to no ongoing maintenance and use environmentally-friendly solar modules.

Carmanah's SQ175 solar module features Shell Solar 125 mm single crystal solar cells in a proprietary ruggedized housing of anodized aluminum with a tempered glass face. This unit is one of Carmanah's most popular modules for industrial and home power systems, and thousands of SQ175's are installed annually throughout North America .

The Fronius IG 2500-LV 3-phase Grid Tie Inverter utilizes high frequency, phase-shift architecture to deliver higher system performance while reducing size, weight and installation costs.

This solar grid-tie project is listed on the Canada Green Building Council website at For more information on this project or Carmanah’s solar power systems in general, please visit or contact:
