Irrigation District Powers Water Flow Stations with Solar Energy

Thursday, November 22, 2007

A California irrigation district is using solar-electric technology from Carmanah to provide a reliable source of remote off-grid power at its water-flow measuring stations.

Designed to monitor the flow of water every ten minutes, and transmit the data back to head office for analysis, many of the district's automated measuring stations are located in remote locations where grid power is either inaccessible or impractical as an energy source. As each station requires only a minimal amount of power, the cost of running power lines to each of the remote sites would not be cost effective.

To help fulfill the District's unique power requirements, Carmanah has provided complete turnkey stand-alone 3kW solar power systems for immediate installation.

The standalone solar power solution offers quick and easy installation, and minimal maintenance for a convenient and reliable source of power wherever it's needed.

In addition to projects such as this, Carmanah's integrated, turnkey solar power systems can support a variety of remote equipment applications:

  • Video surveillance
  • Security lighting
  • Remote communications
  • Perimeter security
  • Water resource security
  • Construction sites
  • Motion sensors
