Carmanah has received an order from the US Air Force for 67 units of its model A702 white runway edge light. These lights will be installed at the Balad Air Base in Iraq.

Located in Northern Iraq approximately 68 kilometers North of Baghdad, Balad Air Base is one of the largest air bases in Iraq, is. The U.S. Air Force required lighting to light the inside of the distance to go markers and moon markers for aircraft arresting gear. Initially designed for expedited airfield lighting with the US Air Force and the US Army, Carmanah’s A702 runway light is the first solar-powered LED aviation light to be used for fixed wing operations at remote airfield landing strips and expedited airfields.

Without the need for wiring, Carmanah’s solar-powered LED airfield lights can be moved and placed at any location requiring taxiway, runway, threshold, obstruction or helipad lighting applications. The lights are designed to operate with no scheduled maintenance for up to 5 years and they are shock-proof, vibration-proof and completely watertight. They have been field-proven to endure the harshest of environmental conditions, including extremely temperatures such as those found in the Middle East.

Carmanah continues to provide US Defense with all of their self-contained solar LED lighting solutions for permanent and forward operating base operations. More than 21,000 lights are currently installed with the US Defense alone, savings this organization millions of dollars in up-front capital costs and eliminating electrical, power and significant labor expenses.
