To help enhance pedestrian safety as children return to school this fall, the District of Saanich in the Canadian City of Victoria, British Columbia is installing pedestrian-activated solar-powered flashing beacons at high-traffic crossings throughout the community.
This latest shipment of crosswalk warning flashers is not a first for Saanich though — the community has used pedestrian-activated solar flashers for years, and has found them to be an effective tool for increasing driver awareness and pedestrian safety. In areas with the flashers in place, the beacons have proven popular with drivers and pedestrians as a way to increase awareness and improve safety at uncontrolled crossings.
With no wiring required, Carmanah’s solar-powered crosswalk warning flashers can be installed quickly and economically wherever they’re needed, with little disruption to traffic, and no scheduled maintenance for up to five years.
