SANTA CRUZ, CA — Carmanah Technologies this week completed the installation of 62 solar-powered LED flashing beacons in 31 school zones across Los Angeles County. The installations – part of the State of California’s Safe Routes to School (SR2S) program – will warn motorists of upcoming school zones and reduced speed limits. The beacons will be used in Azusa, City Terrace, Santa Fe Springs, Walnut Park, Florence, Rosewood, Hacienda Heights, La Mirada, Pasadena, Palmdale, and Stevenson Ranch.

Carmanah CEO Art Aylesworth recognizes tremendous growth potential in the California market. “With our newly expanded facility in Santa Cruz, Carmanah is perfectly positioned to participate in what could become the epicenter of solar energy in the next decade. Our products are already in use throughout the state: in bus shelters around LA, at LAX and runway lights at Truckee Tahoe Airport, and elsewhere. We look forward to increasing our involvement in this forward-thinking and dynamic market.”

Carmanah’s solar-powered flashers offer a number of benefits over traditional hard-wired systems. They charge in all weather conditions, operate maintenance-free for five years, and are programmable for 500 days. Installation requires no external power, trenching, cabling or special permits, and causes no disruption to traffic flow.

In January, California passed the California Solar Initiative (CSI), the largest solar energy policy in US history. Promising a $3.8 billion investment over ten years, CSI triples the state’s former subsidy and could make California the largest solar market in the world.
