During a live press conference held at Carmanah’s headquarters in Victoria, BC, on February 27, 2007, Richard Neufeld, British Columbia’s Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources, announced the new BC Energy Plan: A Vision for Clean Energy Leadership.

The BC Energy Plan puts British Columbia at the forefront of environmental and economic leadership. It looks to all forms of clean, alternative energy in meeting British Columbians’ needs in the provincial economy. Bioenergy, geothermal energy, tidal, run-of-river, solar and wind power are all potential energy sources in a clean, renewable future. New technologies and new solutions will also be encouraged to “green the grid” and provide clean remote energy and reduce energy losses.

“The BC Energy Plan provides made-in-B.C. solutions to the global challenge of ensuring secure, reliable and affordable energy,” said Neufeld. “The Province will require zero net greenhouse gas emissions from all new electricity projects and support the development of clean energy technology. This plan balances the economic opportunities available from our wide range of natural resources while leading the world in sustainable environmental management.”
