Carmanah has received an order for 91 R409 single-sided, edge-lit LED illuminated street-name sign for Broward County, Florida. These signs will be installed in South Florida in the Fort Lauderdale and South County areas. Carmanah manufactures the only LED street name sign that is certified and approved on the Florida APL.
Broward County has been installing fluorescent street-name signs for years and, as a result, has experienced the high costs of bulb replacement and frequent sign maintenance. These costs were particularly apparent in the aftermath of Hurricane Wilma.
In an effort to reduce its illuminated sign expenses, Broward County elected to use Carmamah’s LED-based edge-lit sign technology for many intersections, which offers outstanding maintenance-free performance for up to 50,000 hours with no bulbs or ballasts to replace. In addition, compared to traditional fluorescent signs and other LED-illuminated street-name signage, Carmanah’s LED edge-lit signs provide greater energy savings and are easier and less expensive to install. The signs are very durable and feature a slim design of less than 1.5″ in thickness. They can be easily rigid mounted directly to mast arms, which is a better installation option for windload compared to underhang signs.
