Carmanah has received an order from the US Army for 50 units of its newly released Model A704-5 wireless solar LED runway edge lights, 20 units of its A704-5 solar LED threshold lights, 1 unit of its hand-held controller and supporting units of aviation light accessories. These units will be installed at a permanent airfield for fixed wing operations and Special Forces training.
Special Forces and US Army pilots will use the runway for training (takeoffs and landings) and standard flight procedures using both visible NVG compatible and covert infrared lighting.. As there is no electrical infrastructure on the runway using the A704-5, Carmanah’s LED lights are an ideal solution for the airfield’s lighting needs. In fact, the US Army saved an estimated $300,000 by installing Carmanah’s technology rather than a conventional hard-wired system. As well, there was no disruption to airfield operations or environmental damage during the quick and easy installation.
