Carmanah’s Roadway Lighting Division has received a contract from the City of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, to supply R409 LED illuminated street name sign technology for evaluation purposes.
A trial LED edge-lit sign will be installed on Gilbert Road at the Richmond Oval Stadium, future home of the speed skating competition for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. With construction of the stadium underway, the City of Richmond has been considering internally-illuminated street-name signs to provide additional guidance and safety, particularly for tourists unfamiliar with the area around the stadium.
Carmanah’s LED illuminated signs were chosen for their slim, lightweight design, energy efficiency and maintenance-free operation. Upon successful completion of the trial, the City of Richmond plans to install several more R409 signs throughout the vicinity of the Oval Stadium to provide additional visibility and guidance for athletes and visitors.
