Carmanah’s Solar Power Systems Division has recently supplied a customized MAPPS solar power system to Canada’s Ministry of Environment (MOE) for an air pollution monitoring pilot project.
The trial MOE Air Pollution Monitoring System is currently installed in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, but is a non-fixed installation and can be relocated as required.
MOE elected to use Carmanah MAPPS solar power system so that the installation can operate autonomously; it is easy to assemble and disassemble and there will be no ongoing power costs as part of the project. The MAPPS used provides 75W of continuous power for the monitoring equipment. A review of the pilot project is scheduled for the Spring of 2007, which will cover the cost of each installation, maintenance, any vandalism, as well as overall performance.
