Carmanah’s Solar LED Lighting Group recently supplied two solar power systems to the Chicago Metropolitan area through its authorized distributor Brown Traffic Products. The stand-alone solar power systems were configured to run an EIS/ENCOMM “congestion ahead” warning system that will be used to notify highway drivers of upcoming traffic congestion.

Using Carmanah’s solar power systems, the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) consists of an EIS remote traffic microwave sensor and flashing beacons. Using ENCOMM radios to wirelessly communicate, the EIS sensor detects increases in traffic congestion and activates the flashing beacons installed upstream to warn motorists when they are approaching a congested area.

Free of the electrical grid and requiring no maintenance for up to five years, Carmanah’s solar solutions eliminate the ongoing costs often associated with conventional hardwired power systems and beacons. Carmanah’s stand-alone solar power systems provide reliable power to a variety of ITS applications including video vehicle detection systems, sensing technologies and wireless communications.

With more than 250,000 installations worldwide, Carmanah is a leader in solar LED lighting solutions. For more information about this project or to review Carmanah’s other solar LED lighting solutions for the roadway industry, visit www.roadlights.com or contact:
