Carmanah Technologies has signed a memorandum of understanding with New Jersey-based Dialight Corp. to co-operate in developing and marketing new lights for highway and aviation use. Each company’s product development group will work together, said Michael Ball, Carmanah’s vice-president of sales and marketing. “The intent is from this MOU we develop a more definitive joint venture agreement in about six months,” he said. Dialight makes LED (light-emitting diode) traffic lights and other specialty lights, while Carmanah’s expertise is in using solar cells to power its lights more efficiently. Ball said the deal does not mean a takeover at this time by Dialight, part of the $300-million a year Roxboro Group of the U.K.
