Tyler, Texas has a population of more than 87,000 and covers 52.7 square miles. The city is considered the manufacturing, health care, educational and retail center of East Texas.

The city has recently ordered Carmanah’s internally illuminated street signs for three new signalized intersections. State-maintained highways around the city currently have illuminated street-name signs, and to provide consistency the city has decided to install Carmanah’s illuminated signs at new signalized intersections that intersect the state highways. The locations include:

The City of Tyler originally planned on installing fluorescent street-name signs at the new intersections. However, Striping Technology Inc., the contractor awarded the project, suggested that the city utilize Carmanah’s LED edge-lit illuminated signs instead.

The city had recently replaced its incandescent traffic signals with LED signals, and was familiar with the energy and maintenance benefits associated with LEDs. Upon review of a sample of Carmanah’s product, the city was impressed with the visual impact of the unique LED edge-lit technology, and was motivated to accomplish the same benefits found with LED signals.

As the City of Tyler continues to grow, more arterial roadways are being extended to cross the surrounding state highways. The city is considering further installations of Carmanah’s LED edge-lit signs with these new signal projects.
