The U.S. Coast Guard has endorsed the use of LED lighting for private aids-to-navigation. Previous regulations called for tungsten-incandescent bulbs. The Coast Guard has been using solar-powered LEDs for the federal system since 1999. These solid-state fixtures use minimal power, last longer (up to 100,000 hours) and are shockproof to withstand rundowns. Carmanah Technologies, (877) 722-8877. www.solarmarinelights.com.
