Spokane International Airport, a general aviation airport in Spokane, Washington, has purchased an additional order of Carmanah’s solar-powered LED taxiway edge lights for permanent installation.
Spokane International is using Carmanah’s maintenance free, self-contained taxiway edge lights for illuminating areas of its General Aviation airport that currently lack the cabling and power infrastructure required for a conventional hardwired system. Up until now, Spokane has relied on retro reflective markers to attempt to provide luminance on steadily used taxiway lanes. As a result of the FAA�s AND-411 test carried out at Shelton Airport (WA) on May 8, 2003, Carmanah’s solar-powered LED taxiway edge lights were found to increase safety and improve visual guidance in comparison to non-illuminating retro reflective markers.
Carmanah’s aviation lights are currently under evaluation by the FAA, as part of its initiative to provide low cost effective lighting solutions under a General Aviation Lighting handbook.
