The US Air Force has recently ordered 1500 of Carmanah’s airfield light mounting systems to be installed at the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. More than 1,000 units of Carmanah’s solar-powered LED taxiway lights are currently operating on taxiways at this air base mounted on temporary plywood brackets. Ali Al Salem has now committed to remounting the lights using Carmanah’s customized mounting plates, 1.5″ frangible couplings and 1.5″ airport mounting stakes. Together these components comprise a mounting system that will elevate the lights off the surface of the taxiway and provide a frangible (breakaway) capability.

Carmanah’s mounting systems are designed to protect its airfield lights in the event they are run over by taxiing aircraft or support vehicles. When the lights are hit, the 1.5″ frangible coupling breaks away, leaving the light intact for remounting. The use of Carmanah’s frangible mounting systems at Ali Al Salem Air Base will provide a more permanent and safe operating environment.
