Carmanah’s Roadway Division has received an order to provide the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) with two units of its UL-listed, industry-leading R409 LED illuminated street-name signs to be installed at a state-owned signalized intersection in NE Texas.
TxDot is responsible for transportation safety of all people and goods for the State of Texas. In order to improve the safety at some of their signalized intersections, TxDot was looking for an LED street-name sign solution that would reduce maintenance costs and save energy.
After a successful field trial and environmental test conducted by TxDot, Carmanah’s edge-lit street-name signs were selected as the ideal choice. Carmanah’s LED edge-lit technology provides a rugged, no-maintenance solution for internally-illuminated street-name signs and other traffic signs. Designed with high-flux, ultra-brite LEDs, Carmanah’s LED edge-lit signs will operate maintenance-free for over 50,000 hours, with no bulbs or ballasts to replace. Another feature of the Carmanah R409 that Txdot prefers is the rigid mounting style. Carmanah’s LED edge-lit technology allows for an ultra-slim, unobtrusive frame that can be mounted in any arrangement. Txdot was able to mount the edge-lit sign directly to a sign mast arm located directly above the signal mast arm.
