Carmanah Technologies Corp. of Victoria (CMHX:TSX Venture) has announced that its 700-series solar-powered LED marine lights have been approved for use on U.S. Coast Guard navigation aids.
The USCG has been testing versions of the lights since they were originally designed in 1999.
“We expect this endorsement to have a significant impact on the success of our international marine sales program,” said Art Aylesworth, Carmanah CEO.
The 700-series lights are self-contained and feature proprietary solar-powered LED lighting technology. They retail between US$1,000 and US$1,250 each and are designed to operate nearly anywhere in the world with no maintenance for up to five years.
Carmanah reports that all USCG commanders have received notice that they are now allowed to use Carmanah’s lights on buoys and other platforms at their discretion. The company added that in an effort to reduce service costs, the USCG is examining the cost of replacing its traditional incandescent signals with newer LED-based lighting technologies. Carmanah designs, manufactures and supplies proprietary solar-powered LED lights to the marine, transit, roadway and railway markets.
