Carmanah’s Roadways Division has received an order from the City of Livermore, CA for 12 units of its R409 LED-illuminated, street-name sign. These signs have been installed in downtown Livermore along the First Street Corridor as part of Livermore’s First Street Landscape Project.
Livermore’s experience with traditional hard-wired fluorescent signs, and the associated ongoing maintenance and high-energy costs, motivated the city to purchase Carmanah’s LED signs. Carmanah’s LED edge-lit technology provides a rugged, no-maintenance solution for internally-illuminated street-name signs and other traffic signs. Designed with high-flux, ultra-bright LEDs, Carmanah’s LED edge-lit signs will operate maintenance free for over 50,000 hours, with no bulbs or ballasts to replace.
Furthermore, the City of Livermore wanted illuminated street-name signs that were aesthetically consistent with the unique look of the First Street Streetscape Project. Livermore chose Carmanah’s LED edge-lit signs for their visual appeal and low profile design. For the First Street Corridor, Livermore chose to reverse the standard LED street sign design of a green background with white text to create a specific downtown core identity. Standard Carmanah LED street signs will be installed outside the First Street Corridor that will feature the typical green background.
Carmanah’s R409 illuminated overhead street name signs enhance visibility and legibility of street name signs for drivers. They emit uniform illumination, and provide a high legend-background contrast ratio that optimizes sign visibility and legibility of street-name signs from a greater distance.
Another important factor for Livermore was their unique mounting requirements. The street-name signs must mount directly to the mast arm of the sign post. Carmanah’s LED edge-lit technology allows for an ultra-slim, unobtrusive frame that can be mounted in any arrangement, or can be strapped directly to a mast arm.
