With this order, there are now more than 50 units installed throughout the county, significantly improving sign visibility and driver safety at major intersections.
Arlington County opted against installing typical fluorescent illuminated street name signs, primarily due to the high costs of maintenance and energy consumption. After reviewing a number of different technologies, the county selected Carmanah’s illuminated sign technology because of its brightness, clarity, uniformity of output and compact design.
Many cities and counties throughout the United States are retrofitting traffic signals from incandescent to LED due to energy and maintenance savings. These agencies also want to use LED technology for street name signs for the same reasons.
