Carmanah’s Solar LED Lighting Group has received an order valued at more than $330,000 from Exxon Mobil to supply an expedited airfield lighting system for an airfield in Chad, Africa. This system is comprised of Carmanah’s Model A704-5 runway lights with wireless control, Model A601 taxiway lights, as well as the frangible bases and mounting hardware necessary for installation.
Exxon Mobil did not have access to grid power out to this particular airfield in Chad. They were in need of a fully self-sufficient lighting system with the ability to be controlled from a central location. Carmanah’s solar-powered LED airfield lighting technology was selected as the ideal solution because of its relatively low cost, ease of installation, maintenance-free operation, and field-proven reliability.
As mentioned, the system supplied to Exxon Mobil includes Carmanah’s advanced A704-5 solar-powered LED airfield lights with centralized wireless control. These units will operate automatically from dusk till dawn year-round under all types of environmental conditions. They can also be programmed using a centralized handheld controller for on-demand activation, selecting intensity levels or running diagnostics. Each fixture in Carmanah’s A704-5 wireless lighting system can be individually controlled or controlled in groups from both the ground or the air (pilot-activated lighting) using an encrypted 900 MHz RF signal.
