Victoria’s Carmanah Technologies won a Global 100 Eco-Tech Award at the 2005 World Exposition in Aichi, Japan for its energy-efficient light-emitting diode (LED) lighting products such as illuminated signs, pedestrian beacons, marine and aviation lights, and solar-powered illuminated bus stops.

The awards, sponsored by the Japan Association for the 2005 World Exposition, recognize companies who are addressing global environmental challenges. Carmanah will use the cash prize of $10,700 to establish a scholarship at the University of Victoria.
