Inadvertently running stop signs is a serious and persistent problem in both rural areas where drivers lose concentration as well as urban settings where drivers become distracted.

One city in Texas (location information withheld) is improving this through the use of Carmanah’s new LED internally-illuminated stop signs. Eight problem intersections have been selected by the city to install Carmanah’s technology. Other locations are being considered after an evaluation of the initial installation.

Carmanah has developed a unique octagonal-shaped frame to comply with the Federal Highways Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standards. Carmanah’s proprietary led edge-lit technology effectively illuminates the entire sign face, drawing attention to the sign, even at far distances. The sign also use retro-reflective material to provide sign visibility in the event of a grid power failure.

Like all of Carmanah’s LED edge-lit street-name and traffic signs, the new octagonal stop sign is ultra-slim, durable and extremely easy to install.
