On May 26th 2006, Carmanah joined the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce in welcoming Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper. The Prime Minister addressed a sold out Chamber luncheon held at the Fairmont Empress Hotel in Victoria, British Columbia.

During his remarks, Prime Minister Harper promised fixed election dates with four year terms and more MP seats for British Columbia. The Prime Minister was frequently applauded as he outlined his program of fiscal accountability and lower taxes. This was the first speech delivered to a Victoria Chamber audience by a Prime Minister in nearly 13 years.
