Vancouver, British Columbia – April 26, 2002 – Carmanah Technologies Corporation (CMH – TSX Venture Exchange) is pleased to announce today that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Carmanah Technologies Inc. (“Carmanah”), has has been successful in its Canadian patent application for its proprietary solar powered light emitting diode (LED) lighting technology. This Canadian patent mirrors the company’s U.S. patent of the same name, Sealed, Solar-Powered Light Assembly, and gives Carmanah complete protection throughout the United States and Canada.
“We are pleased to finally receive our patent in Canada, as the original filing date was April 1998,” commented Art Aylesworth, C.E.O. of Carmanah. “With our two patents combined, Carmanah and its authorized distributors are now the only suppliers worldwide with the rights to market sealed, self-contained solar LED lighting within the United States and Canada.”
As is normal procedure, Carmanah filed for a patent first in the United States and thereafter in Canada. The combined utility patent rights provide Carmanah with 20 years of exclusive North America-wide protection from the date the patent application was filed. Utility patent rights not only protect the patent-holder from local competition, but also from the import of “copycat” products, giving Carmanah the advantage of establishing itself as a market leader in North America.
Carmanah’s new Canadian patent adds to the company’s previous inventory of seven patents internationally and two patents pending.
