VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA and COLUMBUS, OHIO (November 1, 2010) – The strategic partnership between airfield lighting pioneers Carmanah Technologies Corporation and ADB Airfield Solutions has yielded a significant purchase order from the Venezuela Air Force for a joint solar and AC-powered airfield lighting system, valued in excess of $300,000 USD, as part of an infrastructure upgrade at an undisclosed base.
The new airfield lighting system includes radio-controlled solar LED ADB-branded SAWL runway edge lights and SATO blue taxiway lights manufactured by Carmanah, combined with an AC-powered ADB approach system. Cost savings associated with the new system are expected to be significant as the solar portion of the installation requires no trenching or cabling, and there will be minimal ongoing operation or maintenance costs.
Venezuela-based Carmanah and ADB partner, Iner Consultores, is working closely with the Air Force to oversee delivery and installation of the system. “The Carmanah ADB partnership gives Iner Consultores the ability to provide a complete airfield solution that integrates solar and AC-powered components, creating many new opportunities for ADB and Carmanah in this market,” said Iner Consultores director, Iliana Fernandez, a longtime Carmanah distributor who has recently begun working with ADB to serve the Venezuela airfield lighting market.
Carmanah CEO Ted Lattimore agreed. “Projects like the Venezuela Air Force airfield upgrade are an excellent example of the kinds of opportunities created by the Carmanah and ADB partnership. A joint solar and AC-powered product portfolio combined with Carmanah and ADB’s decades of expertise in developing and delivering airfield lighting systems gives our global distributor channel the complete solution they need to respond to any and all airfield lighting opportunities.”
