Carmanah is pleased to announce that its award-winning i-STOP® solar-powered illuminated bus stop meets the safety requirements set forth by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) and Canadian Standards Association (CSA) as determined through independent testing by Edison Test Labs (ETL). The i-STOP® system will now bear the ETL Listed Mark certifying that it has been successfully tested to these standards. UL and CSA are the trusted sources that set the standards for product testing and safety in North America, and the i-STOP® system’s compliance to these certifications is a testament to this product’s already proven exceptional field performance. More than 95 transit authorities in North America, and many others globally, currently utilize Carmanah’s range of solar-powered LED lighting products for shelters and bus stops.

UL has developed more than 800 Standards for Safety to help ensure public safety, reduce costs, and improve quality. The significance of UL approval is that it provides third party evidence that the i-STOP® system complies with rigorous safety standards. Further, Carmanah’s i-STOP® solar transit stop is the only product of its kind in the transit industry with UL approval. This is particularly important to the many North American electrical inspectors who are required to work with products with the UL mark over non-approved products. Carmanah’s clients benefit from the assurance of a high-quality, reliable product.

About the i-STOP® Solar LED Transit Stop

The i-STOP® unit is a compact, completely self-contained solar-powered LED bus stop lighting system that installs onto most standard bus stop poles. The i-STOP® unit is entirely modular, enabling transit authorities to choose one or more of the following LED lighting features:

  • Security area lighting to provide a safer environment for waiting passengers. This down lighting also allows passengers to be more visible to bus operators;
  • An edge-lit illuminated schedule with low-profile, uniform illumination that enables passengers to readily view bus route information from dusk to dawn;
  • Carmanah’s patented i-SIGNAL™ bus signaling device – a flashing beacon that notifies an oncoming bus that a stop is required. This beacon is visible up to a 1/4 mile in the day, and 1 mile in the dark.

All features are user-activated via ADA-compliant, self-illuminating buttons, including Braille labels with easy-to-read tactile lettering.

Utilizing Carmanah’s award-winning, patented solar-powered LED technology, the i-STOP® bus stop lighting system can be installed quickly and cost-effectively with no trenching, wiring, traffic disruption or site remediation required.
