VICTORIA - When Mimi Drabit arrived for work at Carmanah Technologies Inc. on Sept. 2, she thought it would be a day like any other at the small but fast-growing Victoria company, which makes, among other things, solar-powered lights. That is, until she checked her voice-mail messages. "The coast guard in Mobil, Alabama had left a message and I could hear the desperation in their voice," she said. The hurricane and flood that swept through New Orleans wiped out its transportation infrastructure.

The Mississippi River from Head of Passes (HOP) to New Orleans is open for 24-hour traffic, said Barry Kennedy in a news conference on September 13. From HOP to the Gulf, the channel is clear, but all navigation aids are not in place, so traffic there is limited to the daylight hours.

Carmanah to Provide CCG with More LED Lighting

Carmanah Technologies Inc. has been awarded two additional Standing Offer Contracts with the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) for the purchase of the Company's self-contained, solar LED marine lights and related accessories. The combined value of these two new Standing Offers is up to $828,000, and they are valid from August 10, 2005 to September 30, 2007, with a possible extension to September 30, 2008.

Carmanah Supplies LED Street-Name Signs to the City of Shoreline, Washington

Carmanah has been contracted by the City of Shoreline, Washington, to supply 12 units of its Model R409 LED edge-lit street-name signs. These signs will be installed along Aurora Avenue between North 155th Street and 165th Street. Shoreline is the first city in the state of Washington to purchase Carmanah's LED illuminated street-name signs.

Gulf Coast Desperate for Victoria-made LED Lights in Wake of Hurricane Katrina

Solar-powered LED lighting produced in Victoria is lighting up key transportation routes on the U.S. Gulf Coast left dark by Hurricane Katrina. Orders for more than 500 of Carmanah Technologies' marine, railway and aviation lights were received during the week following Katrina. To meet the demand, the pioneer LED and solar power company has sent all of its inventory, and is dedicating all of its new production to the area. Most of the orders have been for Carmanah's 700-Series marine navigation lights, which have been sent to the U.S.

Carmanah has received an order from a leading US security system integrator to supply its proprietary 220-watt MAPPS (Modular Autonomous Photovoltaic Power Supply) system.
