Carmanah’s Roadway Division has supplied the City of Victoria, BC, with two units of its R450 edge-lit crosswalk signs. These units are now installed at an uncontrolled crosswalk on Bay Street and Dowler Street in Victoria, BC.

R450 Edge-lit Pedestrian Crossing Sign

The City of Victoria needed to upgrade this special crosswalk from smaller, fluorescent illuminated signs to 3′ x 4′ illuminated RA-5 signs to improve pedestrian and driver safety. Special Crosswalks are a standard crosswalk treatment in Canada for uncontrolled marked crossings, and include internally illuminated RA-5* pedestrian signs. RA-5 signs are mandatory at all Canadian crosswalks and are part of the Canadian Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Canada**. In addition to the savings on maintenance and energy, The City of Victoria chose Carmanah’s R450 edge-lit signs because of their previous success with Carmanah’s LED illuminated street-name signs.
