Let There Be LED Light!

Sharon Tiffin/VicNews City of Victoria worker Les Keddie wires the new LED lights Thursday on Blanshard Street in front of the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. The city installed four LED-illuminated street signs, made by Carmanah Technologies Corp. of Victoria. The company says the high-tech, ultra energy-efficient signs should operate maintenance-free for over 50,000 hours.

Harrisburg International Airport Orders Carmanah Lights

Carmanah Technologies is pleased to announce that it recently received an order for 12 Model A601 (blue) solar-powered LED taxiway lights from Harrisburg International Airport, located outside Harrisburg, PA. Harrisburg International Airport initially ordered eight Carmanah solar-powered LED obstruction lights early in January of 2005 and they were extremely pleased with both their performance and ease of installation.

US Army Places Additional Helipad Lighting Order

Carmanah's Aviation Lighting Division has received a recent order from the US Army to supply its solar-powered LED airfield lighting to multiple helipads in the Middle East. The order consists of 128 Model A601 blue lights to guide helicopters while taxiing, 29 Model A601 amber helipad edge lights for touch down, 18 Model A601 red obstruction marking lights and eight units of the Model A702 (white) for approach lighting. In addition to the lights, mounting accessories and hand-held remote programmers will be used to permanently secure the lights to the ground while offering the installer the option to change the lights intensity, check battery levels and change the on/off time.

Revenue picture brightens for Carmanah in 2004 Revenues for Carmanah Technologies Corp. (TSX: CMH) in 2004 increased by 72 per cent over the previous year. According to its 2004 financials, the Victoria-based company pulled in close to $16 million compared with $9.2 million in 2003. Carmanah's net earnings last year were $592,823 - up from a loss of $126,394 in 2003. The company credited the increases to higher demand for its products within the aviation and transit markets, which had generated over $7 million for Carmanah. Carmanah develops solar-powered light emitting diodes (LEDs). The company has sold more than 100,000 of its LED lamps in 110 countries..

VICTORIA -- Victoria's Carmanah Technologies reported Wednesday net earnings of $592,823 for 2004, up from a loss of $126,394 in 2003. Carmanah said audited results showed annual revenue of $15.9 million up 72 per cent from 2003's $9.2 million. Increasing demand within the aviation and transit markets generated revenues in excess of $7 million in 2004, representing a 112-per-cent increase over 2003. Carmanah Receives Additional Order for US Army Emergency Runway

Carmanah is pleased to report the entire order was delivered within two business days, and was comprised of 210 units of taxiway edge, runway edge, runway caution and runway threshold airfield lights. These lights will be installed on a temporary runway at the air base to enable uninterrupted operations while pavement construction takes place.

US Army Orders Medevac Helipad Lighting For Kuwait

The US Army has contracted the Aviation Lighting Division of Carmanah Technologies to supply 32 units of the Model A702 amber helipad edge light and its corresponding mounting hardware. These lights will be permanently installed to enhance helipad edge visibility during Night Vision Goggle (NVG) use at a US Army Medevac Hospital in Kuwait. This order is in addition to more than 12,000 lights already installed by the US Armed Forces at more than 100 air bases and camps on 5 continents.

US Air Force Places Additional Order For Taxiway Edge Lights

The US Air Force has placed an additional order for 250 units of Carmanah Technologies' Model A601 taxiway edge lights to be installed at the second largest US Air Force base in Iraq. Carmanah's solar-powered LED taxiway lights will replace existing retroreflective markers, a measure that is being taken to significantly improve nighttime safety under pilot Night Vision Goggle (NVG) use.

Carmanah Buoy Light Survives Year-Long Ocean Trip

A runaway Canadian Coast Guard bouy took more than a year to cross the Atlantic and run aground on a small Shetland Island, but its made-in-Victoria light was still flashing. The five-metre-tall buoy went adrift off the coast of Labrador in November 2003, says Susan Keough, spokes-woman for Fisheries and Oceans Canada's Newfoundland and Labrador region. It had been used as a seasonal buoy placed in the water around June and taken out in October or November. In this case, the buoy took off before it could be collected.
