David Green - the founder and chairman of Carmanah Technologies of Victoria, a company whose solar power and LED lighting systems illuminate more than 110 countries - has been named Canada's Exporter of the Year for 2005. Carmanah also won the Innovation Award. Global Thermoelectric Inc.

Popstars! Reprises

Victoria's PopStars! fans will be treated to a bonus show, while the Royal Theatre will benefit from the proceeds, which will go toward development of a solar power pilot project. The celebrity tribute show, which usually performs each fall, returns to the Royal Theatre March 19 at 8 p.m. "It's the same show as last November; we're bringing everyone back," said Darla Cooper, a provincial government employee and PopStars! producer. The show will have a few changes, such as the addition of a Bette Midler impersonator.

Company Pushes Solar Tech

Carmanah Technologies, a Canadian company with a sales office and warehouse in Scotts Valley, has installed 62 solar-powered LED flashing beacons in 31 school zones in Los Angeles County to improve safety. The beacons - part of the state's Safe Routes to School program - warn motorists of reduced speed limits. Carmanah cites several benefits of its solar-powered flashers over traditional hard-wired systems.

Carmanah Crowned Exporter of the Year

Carmanah Technologies, the Victoria company that designs and manufactures solar devices for roads, airport runways and marine passages around the world, has been named 2005 Exporter of the Year by International Trade Canada. The federal government agency, under trade minister David Emerson, also gave Carmanah the Innovation Award for 2005.

Pierce Transit, WA, Orders Carmanah’s Solar LED Bus Stops and Shelter Lighting

Carmanah has received an order from Pierce Transit of Lakewood, WA, for 43 units of its fully self-contained, solar-powered i-STOP® solar LED illuminated bus stop and 20 units of its i-SHELTER™ solar-powered LED shelter lighting systems. Pierce Transit, located in the City of Lakewood, WA, is the agency responsible for the public transit in the Pierce County region, which consists of 24 cities and towns with a population of approximately 756,000 residents.

Carmanah’s LED Sign Group Supplies 600 LED Edge-Lit Countertop Displays

Carmanah's LED Sign Group has received an order from a large US tire company retailer for 600 countertop LED edge-lit signs. The point-of-purchase signs will be used in the client's distributor franchised retail stores across the US as part of a new product launch. The eye-catching countertop sign is cut to the shape of a tire, and is illuminated using blue ultra-bright LEDs.
