Low-cost and effective rectangular rapid flashing beacon for crosswalks

Improve driver yield rates in a flash. The Carmanah R920-E Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) improves compliance at uncontrolled crossings, such as midblock crosswalks and trail crossings. This user-activated, solar-powered flashing beacon is highly visible thanks to its irregular flash pattern (WW+S), which helps pedestrians and cyclists be seen in the daytime or at night, in any weather and any setting.

The solar panel, batteries and energy management system are contained in one, compact unit, making the R920-E an easy-to-install, self-contained solution. Its compact design and included universal mounting makes it easy to mount to many different pole shapes and sizes—it can even be retrofitted onto existing crosswalk signage to enhance an existing marked crosswalk. Despite its small form factor, the R920-E RRFB still packs high performance and brightness thanks to efficient energy management and a low power draw. This means it can even operate reliably in northern locations where average solar-powered RRFBs would not be sustainable and would require frequent, unnecessary battery replacements.

The R920-E RRFB can also be equipped with accessible pedestrian signals (APS) to meet full ADA compliance. It requires no trenching, cabling, or in-ground wiring, and it’s built to last: durable and dependable, this product comes with a 5-year warranty for peace of mind.

The RRFB has interim approval in the Federal Highway Administration’s Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), making this an approved product across the United States, as well as other regions including Canada and overseas. Read about IA-21.

ADA, PROWAG and MUTCD Compliant Pedestrian Activation

All our crosswalk beacon systems use pushbuttons and activation methods that are compliant to ADA, PROWAG and MUTCD standards and guidelines. The R920-E can support standard push buttons with two-tone audible confirmation and visual LED confirmation and accessible pedestrian signal (APS) pushbuttons with locator tone and customizable voice messages. APS pushbuttons with non-contact operation are also supported, allowing pedestrians to activate a crosswalk without pressing a button.
