Canadian firms are to be shut out from bidding on reconstructing Iraq, but that hasnt stopped Victoria’s Carmanah Technologies (CMH:TSX Venture) from winning a $266,000 contract to provide solar-powered LED airfield lighting to the primary U.S. airbase in Afghanistan.
The U.S. Army has ordered 520 Carmanah airfield lights for the Bagram Air Base north of Kabul.
The lights are now in the ground and are guiding C-130 carrier planes, fighter jets and helicopters.
Carmanah has sold more than $1.6 million worth of lighting to the U.S. military this year. Part of the attraction for Carmanahs lights is that they do not require electrical inputs or wiring.
